August 14th, 2024 by

It’s coming… I can almost smell the kettle corn popping, hear the carnival music, and feel the excitement in the air. It’s almost time for the Minnesota State Fair!

Designed to entertain those of all ages, this fair is not to be missed. It is one of the most fun summertime traditions in our state, our family included!

The 2024 fair runs from August 22 to September 2, which is Labor Day. If you’re looking for more details, click here for fairgrounds hours. Let’s take a look at the long list of exciting “must-do” activities for families this year!

Shows, Concerts, and Entertainment

There are five full stages of entertainment happening throughout the week. A robust calendar of daily shows is found right here. More than 900 shows will occur through the festivities of the fair, with over 100 different acts performing across the 12-day event.

Most shows are free to attend, with fairground admittance, and you can determine which shows fall on which dates by using a specialized search page, which dives through the hundreds of performances to find your ideal pick.

Rides for the Whole Family

It’s not just the shows that keep the whole family happy with free music and performances. There is an entire midway filled with excitement. The “Kid-Way” specializes in younger visitors and can be found along Underwood Street and Dan Patch Avenue, just behind the Visitor’s Plaza.

Adventure Park will house the most exciting thrill rides for those seeking serious adventure. Many rides will require tickets to board, though special savings days are also slated amongst the 12 fun nights. Some special thrills cost additional funds, including:

Unique Attractions for All

From the Butterfly House to the Haunted House, the Minnesota State Fair’s attractions truly aim to please every interest. A “Krazy Maze,” mini golf, and even a Reptile Show are all part of the attractions. There really is something for everyone.

The Great Big Wheel will make its annual appearance, offering Ferris Wheel views of the entire fair. A Giant Slide may keep the youngsters busy, climbing endless stairs to swiftly zip to the bottom atop the traditional burlap bag.

Furry Friends, Too

With all the fun and excitement, don’t forget to stop by the beautiful animals on display, as well. From horses and cows to pigs and poultry, if you can think of a farm animal, chances are it will be there.

Hours for the animals may vary by species. Check the rotating calendars to be sure you don’t miss your favorites.
