Are Home Insurance Add-ons Necessary?
October 30th, 2024 by rrteamMost homeowners insurance policies include something called an “add-on” or a “rider” or an “endorsement.” Whatever name you’d like to use, the definition is the same: These are specific adjustments made to a homeowners’ insurance policy.
Let’s explore just what they are and if you should have any!
What are Endorsements to Homeowners’ Insurance?
Endorsements or add-ons are described as additions, exclusions, deletions, or changes to an insurance policy. In the case of a homeowners’ policy, these endorsements can be viewed like accessories to an outfit. Just like throwing on some jewelry or a tie, add-ons are accessories that personalize a policy specifically to your home.
Do I Need Add-Ons for My Insurance?
Yes – I always want you to have at least a baseline set of endorsements to cover your property. These are often necessary to be sure you are protected. My customer service and integrity won’t allow for anything less. Not offering such add-ons would mean I’m not covering your actual needs.
Also, as an independent agent, I’m able to customize your policy to be sure I find you the right fit. No two clients are the same, and that also means no single product will “fit” them in the exact same way. Even your next-door neighbor might not require the same policy you do. There is no “one size fits all” in my agency, because each person has their own circumstances.
What Add-Ons Would You Recommend?
We all know that homeowners insurance is becoming more expensive, but minimum coverage is still important. These are the three options I recommend to most of my homeowners insurance clients:
- Water backup and sump pump overflow endorsement
- Extended dwelling replacement coverage
- Siding and roof matching endorsement
These are additions I find to be the most important in the event of any loss. They are also features most policies don’t include, but matter to my clients in Southern Minnesota.
